ChatGPT + Verilex Data
Verified government data inside every ChatGPT conversation
What you need
- ChatGPT Plus, Pro, or Team subscription
- Verilex Professional API key (get one here)
Add Verilex from the ChatGPT App Store
Verilex Data is available as a ChatGPT integration through the MCP (Model Context Protocol) standard. Once added, ChatGPT can call 60+ data tools across 16 Professional datasets without any code or prompt engineering.
1 Find Verilex Data in ChatGPT
Open ChatGPT and navigate to the integrations or tools section. Search for "Verilex Data" and click Add.
Verilex Data
MCPVerified data from IRS, FDIC, BLS, SAM.gov, FEMA, and 11 more federal and state sources. 4M+ records. No hallucinated numbers.
2 Authorize with your API key
ChatGPT will prompt you to sign in. Enter your Verilex Professional API key when asked. This connects your subscription and datasets to ChatGPT.
Connect Verilex Data
Enter your Professional API key to enable data access.
Your key is transmitted securely and never stored by OpenAI.
3 Ask questions — ChatGPT queries the data
That's it. Start any conversation and ask about data. ChatGPT will automatically call the Verilex API and return verified results with source citations.
"What is the American Red Cross annual revenue and total assets?"
"Is Lockheed Martin registered in SAM.gov? What's their exclusion status?"
"What's the median salary for software developers in the Dallas metro area?"
"Look up ICD-10 codes related to Type 2 diabetes"
What is the American Red Cross annual revenue?
The American National Red Cross (EIN 53-0196605) reported the following on their most recent IRS Form 990 (tax period 202306):
- Revenue: $3,400,000,000
- Expenses: $3,200,000,000
- Assets: $4,100,000,000
Source: IRS Form 990, via Verilex Data
ChatGPT shows which Verilex tool was used and returns structured data with the source cited. No hallucinated numbers.
Available tools
The Verilex integration gives ChatGPT access to 60+ data tools across all Professional datasets. Which tools are available depends on your subscription plan.
How it works
Verilex connects to ChatGPT using the Model Context Protocol (MCP) standard. When you ask a question that involves data, ChatGPT:
- Identifies which Verilex tool to call (e.g.,
pro_nonprofit_search) - Sends a request to the Verilex MCP server with your parameters
- Receives structured JSON data from the underlying government source
- Formats the response in natural language with source citations
Your API key authenticates every request. ChatGPT never sees or stores your key beyond the active session.
Tips for best results
Be specific. "Look up EIN 53-0196605" triggers a direct API call. "Tell me about the Red Cross" may cause the model to use training data first.
Ask for sources. Add "cite your source" and ChatGPT will include the filing type, tax period, or data provenance.
Batch queries. "Look up these 10 EINs" works. ChatGPT makes multiple tool calls and compiles results into a table.
Combine datasets. "Look up this nonprofit and check if they're registered in SAM.gov" chains two tools in one query.
Rate limits
Your plan's monthly query limit applies to calls made through ChatGPT. Each tool call counts as one query. Starter plans include 2,000 queries/month; Pro includes 50,000. See query limits for all plans.
